Our volunteer programme

Many of our best friends and helpers are volunteers; we love to have them around. However it is important to remember that the more time you can give us, the more you will learn and enjoy being a volunteer.

We are planning on being a great deal more organised than in the past. We will expect volunteers to come to the training we provide – which will not be too often or onerous, and there will be levels to pass as you climb the volunteer ladder.

So what will you do as a volunteer? Well there are many tasks and we like to fit the people to the tasks; it always seems rather silly to ask someone who is particularly good at something to put them in a task that is nothing to do with it. On the other hand some people want to get away from what they do normally, so not only do we try to match the task with the person, but also try to find out what you want to be doing

We need help with:-

Cleaning and filling baths in enclosures and in the Hawk Walk

Handling trained birds

Helping with demonstrations

Cleaning the Hawk Walk

Assistance with courses and photography days

Guided tours

Activity days

Evening events

Gardening

IT work

Advertising

General clearing and tidying

Maintenance

And hundreds of other tasks as well

You will be trained for all of these, you will not be expected to manage on your own, and we expect you to try and learn some of the information on your own so you can benefit and be of real value to us, and yourself
