We are often asked by our visitors if they can hold or fly the birds, and the answer is yes, but only if you come on a Day or Half Day Experience here!
We don’t allow handling of the birds on an ad hoc basis – only if you commit to a reasonable time frame such as a whole or half day - and what an experience you will have! To get beak to beak as it were with some of the birds here and look them in that stunning raptor eye, or to stand in the field and have them fly and land on your outstretched glove is an unforgettable encounter. To watch an owl inches away from you, or a peregrine preening on your glove, an eagle towering over your head, is a not to be missed chance. So if you want a great experience, have a look at the Experience Days.
However if you are more serious and want to learn falconry techniques with a view to having your own bird or seeing if you do want one, and what species, plus all the information needed to house and care for one properly, then you need to look at the Falconry Courses page, which gives you some very good options for learning the art of training birds of prey properly.
The access to the birds here is second to none, unlike many Centres we allow unlimited photography and as long as you don't stand in front of other visitors, or make a nuisance of yourself, those interested in photography are very welcome and can move about at the demonstrations. If you want any help or advice on where to stand for which bird, or what is being flown, please just ask one of the staff. The birds in the Hawk Walk are always out on the lawns if the weather is suitable and these give you wonderful chances for great portrait photography. For group or club bookings look at our Photography page
Don't forget that if you want something specialised to your needs all you have to do is give us a ring.
Please Note - To book a day you can do it on line IF you are paying for it then and there, but if you have a voucher you have to phone and book. So go online, look at the dates, have your voucher number ready and phone to book.

Raptor Experience Half Day
Half Day Experience Bird Handling Experience for Adults and Children. These are most commonly run on Sundays, but during school holidays they are also run on Tuesdays and Thursdays - check out the calendar at the bottom of this page - scroll down! This is a half day for anyone interested in learning a little more about birds of prey, or getting that little bit closer to the birds than most visitors to our centre would be able to manage. We will take children from the age of 8 upwards as long as there is a paying accompanying parent or guardian, this must be paying the entrance fee, although we would encourage them if possible, to participate in the day if they can. The height restriction of not below 120cm is because smaller children cannot safely hold the larger birds and they get tired and do not enjoy the day. The half day is a wonderful experience with our birds, where you will get to meet hawks, falcons, owls and kites to name but a few.Read more...

Two Day Refresher Course
Two Day Refresher Falconry Course
Over recent years we have been asked by people who have come on our five day falconry course if we would run a refresher course (or indeed other courses away from here) so that, just before they get their own bird they are reminded of what they have learnt and the various important techniques needed to keep a bird safe and well. As we are now offering the Lantra Award for Beginning Falconry, it seemed like a good idea to run the Refresher course in tandem with this. The Refresher Course can either be done as a stand-alone course, or it can be done in conjunction with being assessed for the Lantra Beginning Falconry Award.Read more...
Beginning Falconry Part 1 & 2
