FALCONRY EXPERIENCE - FULL ONE DAY COURSES
We are delighted to be able to offer a choice of Experience Days. Over many years we have listened to customers and put together a number of different days that you can choose from, a Hawk Day, a Falcon Day or an Owl Day. The choice of type of day does not have to be made until the date is booked.
All the days make a great present for anyone interested in learning a little more about birds of prey. Or getting that little bit closer to the birds than most visitors to a bird of prey centre would be able to manage. Anyone from the age of 16 upwards, is welcome, you just have to like birds, have an interest in knowing a little more about them and preferably like Labradors as well. We can offer days to children but they must be accompanied by a full paying adult, we suggest the half days for children.
We run the days on a voucher system, so you buy a voucher and will be sent to you, with a leaflet on the days and on the Centre. The voucher lasts a calendar year from the date of purchase, giving the recipient plenty of time to take up and book the day they would like. All this takes is a phone call during normal office hours, we do not book then online as yet. If the day has not been taken up after a few months we send a reminder with the following month’s available dates. It is not easy for us to book by email as the time lapse often means days required are gone, so if you can - please phone to book the day.
The days are run every month of the year except January. Depending on bookings, they are held three days a week and include a weekend day. Booking can be difficult in the summer months as the days are popular, however your voucher is valid for a year, so you have plenty of time. There are normally only four people on the course, being trained and encouraged by two of our staff.
All the days start at 10.00am with the recipient arriving (country clothing is sensible please) with his or her voucher. Your day will finish at about 4.00pm
Should a participant wish to bring guests to watch, they are welcome to, except for the hunting day, however we do ask that they to pay the normal entrance fee, plus the cost of lunch, if they wish to eat here. The guests may watch their friends or relations all day, take photos or videos, bearing in mind that the other participates must agree if they are in a picture.
If the day chosen means the voucher holders are leaving the Centre to go out hawking, guests may not join them but can instead stay and watch the flying demonstrations, or leave the Centre to do other things. These days make a wonderful present and experience, and in the 25 years we have been running them, we have many letters and emails of appreciation. We are set in the most beautiful countryside and for anyone wanting to make a weekend of it there are walks in the Forest of Dean or Wales, canoeing on the River Wye, and many other things to do, as well as visiting here at the Centre.

"I'd like to compliment your team on a super experience day last Saturday (5th June). Adam and Robin were very informed, made the day great fun and introduced us to a wonderful variety of birds. I loved the endearing Boobok owl and the rather willful Harris hawk. The birds though were wonderfully behaved and at no time did I feel at all threatened by them, even the larger birds. Without doubt, my favourite was the Red Kite (Milan), as in the last two years we've started seeing them in our area, and I love the irony of the name - I know a little French!
