Two Day Refresher Falconry Course
Over recent years we have been asked by people who have come on our five day falconry course if we would run a refresher course so that, just before they get their own bird they are reminded of what they have learnt and the various important techniques. As we are now going to be offering the Lantra Award for Beginning Falconry, it seemed like a good idea to run the Refresher course in tandem with this. The Refresher Course can either be done as a stand-alone course, or it can be done in conjunction with being assessed for the Lantra Beginning Falconry Award.
Outline of the course:
Picking up and replacing on a perch
Checking up on knot tying
General handling to include feeding, manning and bating
Weighing
Flying on a creance
Telemetry
Lure work if required
Training schedule for your bird
If you also wish to be assessed for the Lantra Beginning Falconry Award, you will need to apply to us beforehand to get registered and receive your Lantra workbook. Do this about six weeks prior to the course to give time to get the paperwork done. If you have been on one of our Five Day courses you should be able to complete much of the work book, Parts 1–6, prior to arriving. Most of this can be done by writing out the answers with diagrams.
Although it states the answers can be verbal, we recommend having them on paper as it gives you something to refer to in the future and if given verbally this increases the time required with the Assessor. We are going to assume that if you have not done our Five Day Falconry Course, you have done the required work to be able to answer these questions in other ways.
Part 8 onwards requires the Assessor to observe the candidate doing many of the given tasks, and this can be done either during this course, or the Five Day course. We will also take photographs so that you have evidence of the required achievements.
Once the Workbook is completed it will then be sent via the Administrator to a Lantra Awards External Verifier. The Assessor's comments and your work will then be checked to see if the standards are met. Your workbook and your Award will be sent to you once you have satisfactorily completed the process.
People interested in doing the Award during an ICBP Course can make their application through the Centre and bring the Workbook with them. They should be prepared to do homework in the evenings if they wish to complete the workbook by the end of the course.
